Ray has the feel of a death metal teenager that goes out of their way to lower expectations only to blow them all away with some Mozart and straight As on exams. The cafe facade blends in to the general beigeness of Brunswick and we did almost walk past until the canny one spotted the simple sign above the door, indicating the path to greatness beyond. Walls on both sides of the narrow lot are decorated with beautiful select local art and several key pieces of reclaimed furniture dotted about all point to a careful curation that doesn't stop at the cafe floor. Atomica is the roaster of choice and Ray's menu covers all the favourites - have you ever seen edamame on a menu and not ordered? We particularly delighted in the pulled pork Croque-monsieur - stairway to heaven.
