The unassuming facade of The Pie Shop feels somewhat incongruous with its growing reputation for pastry genius. This is also key to its attraction; although modern, the clean, easy counter space and small courtyard somehow recall the blue collar milk bar breaks of years gone by. While the yesteryear atmosphere and pie pastry that rivals even my grandmother's pay homage to the history of the homestyle pie and pasty, the fillings are all new and delicious designed by chefs Matt Wilkinson and Steve Rogers. We grabbed a Clancy - pumpkin, chard and haloumi - and were floored by the flavours of the roasted pumpkin. Not even my Nan ever made a pasty that good!
